Prostate Check up

Regular medical checks on the health of your prostate gland are highly recommended from 40 years of age, if you were assigned male gender at birth. This can be especially vital if you have a family history of prostate cancer.

The three most common prostate problems are:

What is prostate?

The prostate is a small gland that men have just in front of their rectum, between their bladder and penis. It plays a role in the male reproduction system, by creating fluid to lubricate and nourish sperm, to enable it to survive longer after ejaculation.

Testing the health of your prostate gland is relatively simple and involves both a physical examination and a blood sample (taken from your arm) to assess levels of a certain antigen.

The reason this test is crucial is to diagnose prostate cancer as early as possible.

According to Prostate Cancer UK, one in eight men get diagnosed with this condition in their lifetime, and 12,000 men a year die from prostate cancer. Spotting the symptoms yourself can be tricky, as they may present as mild urinary issues that develop over time.
